Please remember,
Town + Field Church
– our  LPD Church of the Week.
Thanks to Anna (Ben) Crumback at Sointula Community Church for producing the Church of the Week!

Town + Field Church you say … what and where is that?

Here are some clues:

  • it is situated on land, for which the down payment to purchase was made by Pastor Bill Johnson, using money saved for the birth of their child.
  • the first meetings were held in a tent erected on the site, before they could afford a building.
  • the community has grown and changed. The culture has changed. The Gospel has not changed.
  • the new name for the church reflects their heritage – “town” representing  their roots in what was the “town” of Langley.
  • the “+” represents the cross of Christ – the message of hope and new life in Christ.
  • finally, the “field” part of their name relates to mission – to take the Good News to the mission field of their community and to the world.

Town + Field Church was known as Langley Evangelical Free Church until they “launched” with their new name on Sunday, September 9.

The new name is more that a “rebranding.” It reflects a renewed vision and mission, honouring the heritage of the past, built on the foundation of Jesus Christ and reaching out to the world with the message of hope in Christ as Lord and Saviour. We celebrate this launch of faith. To learn more about their church, please check out their website,  http://townandfield.ca/

Have you grown tired of talking about Millennials? Most millennials I know have grown weary of being spoken of as though they were a homogeneous group, and not individuals of a certain age group.

Okay – let’s move on. Let’s talk about “Generation Z.”

Who are these folk? Generation “Z” includes those born between the years 1996 and 2014 (that includes our four eldest grandchildren). Though somewhat eclipsed by the focus on “Baby Boomers,” “Generation X” and “Millennials,” at 24.9% of the U.S. population they are the largest of the four demographics, and the first “post- Christian” generation in North America.

So, who cares? We should, and in order to relate to these people in our lives and communities, we need to understand them.

While many of Gen Z have not growing up learning about God, most (78%) believe in Him,  and while most have not attended Sunday School, they are open to the Gospel and it will be a “fresh” message to them.

Here some excellent articles about Gen Z and advice on reaching them (please note the links to further articles on the bottom of the first article): https://factsandtrends.net/2017/09/29/10-traits-of-generation-z/?ecid=PDM154691&

What to do about Halloween?

If you are like me, Halloween brings mixed feelings. The loud fireworks and firecrackers scare our dog. I enjoy trick or treating with our grandchildren, and I appreciate the opportunity to meet our neighbours as they trek up and down the street with their children in search of treats.

Here’s an article that provides some positive opportunities to use Halloween as an opportunity to serve others:

Please remember Pastor Sammy Kabyemera, who is at an Ugandan Refugee Camp:

In recent weeks, I have been updating you on the ministry of Pastor Sammy Kabyemera, who is on a two-month visit and ministry to the Kyaka Refugee Camp  in Uganda. Please pray for him and for the brothers and sisters in Christ who are in poverty. Please see the attached letter and photos from Sammy, and also how you can support these dear people.
ALL GIFTS ARE APPRECIATED and can me made by cheque or e-transfer or through Jesus Grace International Church in Vancouver. Would you and your church consider giving to these brothers  and sisters who are refugees?
