A few weeks ago Rob posted an interesting and thought provoking article on our district Facebook page. It spoke into an issue that is becoming more evident in these days. There are more pastors than ever, not just leaving their churches, but leaving ministry altogether. There are also fewer people signing up to pastor. Maybe these thoughts resonate with you
On a recent visit to Prairie Bible college I met a couple of students in the pastoral track and sat in on one of their classes. They expressed concern about how few folk are answering the call to pastor. There is a dire shortage of pastors and many pastors are struggling to gain a long term vision for their role in their church. I cannot help but echo the words of Jesus from Luke 10:2, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
Since COVID pastors and churches have experienced pressures not seen before in ministry. Add to this the moral and ethical failures of prominent pastors and ministry folk or the cynicism society has towards anything ‘Christian’! The result is shorter ministry experiences for pastors in some churches, and the departure of pastors from ministry for other careers.
Back to the article Rob shared. It is meant to bring us back to that ‘Call‘ from God’ to something that goes beyond just a career. It has some great thoughts and steps that you can take to ‘redirect’ and build longevity into your ministry.
