Dear friends,
Good Friday morning – on Saturday…
Yesterday, Karen and I returned from Manning Park, and our annual camping trek.
For the first time I can recall in 35 years of camping there, it did not rain – even once. We returned with dry tarps and to the teasing of our neighbours – can this be a new trend???
Once again, I return amazed at God’s creation. As we hiked the Skyline and Heather trails through the alpine meadows, we marveled at God’s incredible mountain gardens and also his creatures. We saw everything from spruce grouse to marmots, from osprey to weasels, and in all this, we witnessed the creative and sustaining power and provision of God.
As the psalmist writes,
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.
May the glory of the Lord endure forever; may the Lord rejoice in his works—he who looks at the earth, and it trembles, who touches the mountains, and they smoke. (Psalm 104:27-32).
God speaks to us so clearly through his creation, and we have much to learn, if we will only stop to watch and listen.
