Good Friday morning from the LPD!

Who ever thought that we would be glad to see rain?

Having just returned from camping in Manning Park, we have just dried out our tent and tarps before today’s rain. Our family has a long-standing reputation for experiencing rain when we camp. I see it as being  like the Children of Israel in reverse. The clouds seem to follow us and then settle over our tent.

Please see the attached Five Minutes on Friday, with news and prayer items from the LPD – this week, we tell a story from New Life International Fellowship, our LPD Church of the Week. Pastor Ranjith has recently returned from Sri Lanka, and invites us to assist in resourcing pastors and volunteer workers in that country – please see the attached Five Minutes on Friday for details.

Worship. While we no longer hear of “worship wars,” there is perhaps no other area of church ministry where one’s personal preferences are more expressed. In a recent article, David Santistevan offers some practical advice for worship leaders.

This week, the upcoming “Gay Pride Parade” has made the news, in that it is requiring politicians who wish to join them to have their political party sign the “Ten Pledge” that supports the rights of all types of sexual expressions. Ravi Zaccharias offers a rather succinct and helpful address on the Christian view on homosexuality. In this, he addresses both sociological and theological issues and offers a helpful and clear Christian perspective.

Please note the following upcoming dates:

  • August 3-8 – Camp Evergreen. This local summer camp is affiliated with our Lower Pacific District, and provides an excellent summer camping experience for children and leadership training for youth. Camp Evergreen also provides an opportunity for partnership between your local church and a summer camping program.

  • November 6,7 – A Workshop on Christian Sexuality. Hosted by Fort Langley EFC, this workshop, with Christopher Yuan will be both insightful and helpful in equipping people towards a biblical understanding of current issues and also towards more effectively ministering to our neighbours. Please watch for details in the weeks ahead.

  • March 4,5 – 2016 – LPD Conference on the theme Coaching and Mentoring.

May God bless and keep you as you look to the Lord, trust him for his good work through the week ahead.

In Jesus,

Rob

This year, as our Lower Pacific District assists in the birth and revitalization of churches, we also step out in faith with local churches through providing financial support and seed money.  To this end, we appreciate the gifts of many district churches and also of individuals.  You can participate through both cheques and online at our website
